Supervised Residential Living

Supervised Residential Living in Horizon House is the newest program we offer. This program is for guests who are relatively independent and more active, requiring minimal supervision. Horizon House offers an atmosphere of home — “the dearest spot on earth” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 58).  We also desire to provide a sense of community and uplifting activities.  The charming, cozy rooms in Horizon House are uniquely decorated from the inspiration of Spirit and with the beauty of Soul.  Guests may feel the spiritual renewal that often occurs in this beautiful setting.  Three meals a day and housekeeping and laundry services are included.  Moreover, being here is an opportunity to be a blessing unto others and be blessed by the healing atmosphere of Love.  We look forward to having you join us when you are ready!

From a guest: “I am really enjoying living here at Wide Horizon. The food is excellent and activities are invigorating.  The grounds are beautiful and well-kept.  The lawns so pretty and green, the flowers, plants and all the trees are all beautiful in their own way.  I feel like I’m already in heaven.”

Blessings from Donors: Supervised Residential Living

Based on an interview with a guest

Horizon House“It’s home. It’s heaven. It’s a haven.” This is how a Wide Horizon resident describes living permanently at Wide Horizon.

After her children moved to Italy, she wondered about her next step for living accommodations. She had owned her own home for many years. But now she needed a smaller place that would feel like home and where she could focus on her work as a Christian Science practitioner.

Having enjoyed being a Wide Horizon Rest & Study guest a few times, and having been engaged occasionally as a Christian Science practitioner for the institution and its staff, she decided to call Wide Horizon with questions about becoming a resident. What she discovered was that Wide Horizon offers a designated space for residents just like herself — Horizon House, which is a separate building dedicated to residents in the Supervised Residential Living program and Rest & Study guests.

Soon she found herself in a charming and comfortable private room at Horizon House that is filled with decorations and pictures she brought from her house. Her comment about giving up her house and moving to Wide Horizon — “You don’t lose anything. It’s all for the good.”

As a longtime active Christian Science practitioner, she finds her new home — where everything from house cleaning to three meals a day is provided — allows her to focus on her work. Also, the staff and the other guests provide a sense of family. She can be involved in whatever activities she chooses, whether that is attending the regular morning reading of the Bible Lesson or a special event of the day. And, she attends church services as an active member of the local Christian Science branch church.
